State of the Art Fashion Vaults
Storage for the 21st Century
A tour through the Fashion Vault with Margaret Geiss Mooney.
Margaret Geiss Mooney, textile and costume conservator and consultant, recently conducted a detailed assessment of Phoenix Art Museum’s Fashion Design Vault facility as part of a National Endowment for the Humanities grant awarded to the Museum. Her findings will shape the direction and strategies for much needed updates and improvements the Museum will seek to make over the coming years.
Ms. Mooney will discuss the state of the vault as it is now and ways in which it can be improved to better house the Museum’s expanding fashion collection. Her lecture will include images from the vault and comparative data from similar institutions. The long term success of the Fashion Design collection depends not only on the quality of the garments in the collection but the level of care and storage. Be among the first to learn about this important project.
Luncheon: 11:30am Cummings Great Hall
Speaker: 12:30pm Whiteman Auditorium
Lecture is free with Museum admission, luncheon $20 cost

Beginning October 15th, to celebrate the new addition to Scottsdale Fashion Square, check out the “Mannequin is Our Muse” displays. The mannequins were created by a wide variety of people – including Scottsdale Fashion Square retailers, local designer Susan Di Staulo, Mesa Community College Students, my darling friend Jill DeAndrea of The Impeccable Eye and one from Simon Doonan, the Creative Director of Barneys New York.

Each mannequin is unique and a work of art. A jury will decide the Top 5 mannequins to be displayed at Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art through October.
